Holy smokes we're in for a massive winter slam in CanadaLand (sorry southern neighbours, you're getting the overflow...) duh I just schlepped down to the corner stores to stock up and now have all the essential food groups. If the power goes out I'll be good.

How y'all doing with storm prep?

Hope you stay warm up that way. Down south we didn't get hit like the rest of you but it's still plenty cold. I just read that temp in one part of Montana was -47 degrees today! ~ Sounds like Siberia~

It's negative 7 this morning w/ negative windchills in the 30's.

It's so cold my Labradors don't want to be out in it, and my old girl had to be carried in as the cold snow was hurting her feet and she couldn't walk.

minus 2 at high noon here in Amish Country Ohio. We are hunkered down in the fifth wheel, all slides in, to try and keep the heat in and reduce the sail effect from these winds! Naturally the forecast for this storm came after we made our Christmas trip plan, so we had to either cancel it, or shift to "dry camping" = putting no water on board (just keeping a plastic bucket for "camp purposes") Quite a walk the short distance to the nice warm bathhouse, I'll say. Our German Shepherd girl didn't want to play in the snow this morning like usual, either. The old boy would have enjoyed this cold a little more, with his Arctic fur coat and fur foot pads.

I think I may have just frightened an Amish girl, who was cleaning the mirrors in the ladies room, when I emerged from a handicap bath/shower stall with my puffy black nylon jacket, face scarf and fur lined 'bomber' hat! I'd gone in there to wash our breakfast pan (really not supposed to do dishes). I was surprised to see she only looked dressed for inside, with a long black dress and her cap, so I said "Keep warm!" as I left the building - and for a split second, I think she probably thought 'OMG there was a man in the bathroom!' (cause I'm also very tall). 😆

Tushnurse, we're not quite that frigid...yet. Your poor old Labby girl's feet hurt? Bless her and don't strain yer back....

FF, does Baileys really help ya keep warm - or is it more like 'See, now I don't need ANYthing from the store.'?

The Bailey's is just for show - it was a gift from one of my colleagues. The Irish whiskey not in the pic is what does the warming. wink

I woke up at 2 a.m. FROZEN. Toes, hands and nose COLD. My fur babies had managed to unplug my fitted electric quilt. I got up, put on some tights under my jammies and TWO pairs of socks. It's 4 degrees! But guess what? Weather forecast says it will be 67 degrees by next Thursday so if I don't freeze to death before then, all will be well.

I'm hearing from Ontario friends. It's a real mess up there. Their daughter lives in Toronto and is trying to make it 'home' - usually 1.5 hours from Toronto to their home. Blizzard conditions. I hope they make it safely. I sure would hate to be trying to drive on that 401 Highway in bad weather! I hope Dragn and her family are keeping warm! Faithfool, you Canadians are accustomed to this weather, we light-weights down south aren't! smile

FaithFool - I don't see any white wine in that picture. Am hoping it's stashed in a snowbank near the door. Otherwise you appear to be quite well prepared. Wicked, wicked weather. Forecast right now says no (safe)chance of seeing family on Christmas Day. Roads currently closed in the area we need/want to travel to. Huge limb from next door has slammed into guest cabin, can only hope didn't damage roof but not going out right now to deal with it. Car gas tanks are full, cans of gas for generator ready, gas fireplace for heat and we are good. So far today no plow service but back up and gun it and we can still get out of the driveway for emergency. Hunkering down and we'll get to family when we can. Would it be bad if I opened the bottle of Bailey's we had for a Christmas gift?

Just saw a news report about people stranded on trains between Toronto and Ottawa. They're on their third crew and the fresh crew had to drive themselves to the field in the middle of nowhere to get to it. Trip is usually just under 5 hours, now 17 hours and counting, supplies are running out and no end in sight. So glad I don't travel in winter! duh

We had freezing rain today and so glad I could walk to DS place for awhile. Have homemade hot buttered rum mix for tomorrow night. Along with some really good food.

So glad I don't have to be out in this weather.

Chinese food and Scrabble with friends last night, which was the 7th day of Chanukah, as well as Christmas Eve. The temperature outside was abot 11 F when we went over to our friend's house, and I think it got down to 6 overnight. We are so glad it warmed up from Friday, and we are glad we hit 14 yesterday.

Scrabble: First time we played in decades. 2 teams and one individual, all pretty literate. The individual got almost as many points as the 2 teams together. W & I got almost as many points as the other team. smile

@Faithfool - did you get through all your supplies? Certainly has been and continues to be a winter slam where I am. Emergency conditions order still in effect here. Can't get home to family, thankfully accommodation place there very understanding as I call daily to shift arrival date. Power on off/on off, etc. Snowplow driver friend just worked a 12 hour, 14 1/2 hour and today 14 hour shift. FB peeps asking where the plows are. Very frustrating for him. And all the abandoned cars he can't get around (might be why some roads aren't cleared). Contracted snowplow guy made it here today, 1 swipe in and a bearing went so off for repair and will be back sometime tomorrow. Sigh. With some shovelling we can finally get out. Has been a very messed up Christmas season. So many plans changed. My SIL lives at an intersection. Road is closed. People continued to drive it (barricades in place) and then abandoned at that intersection. Four cars pulled over, 2 hit by other cars (obliterated by snow, couldn't see them), a big truck landed/parked? on a huge drift on her front lawn. Her Christmas day "entertainment" was watching 4 tow trucks, police cruiser and ambulance lights. And that's nothing on the major route issues. Did I say messed up season?? I'd currently be happy with a magic wand that takes me into 2023 and skip all this.
