I've been a Star Trek fan since my childhood in the 70s. I've seen every episode of the original series and TNG a gazillion times (not so much other spin-offs).

Lately I've been watching "Star Trek Strange News Worlds" on Paramount+ and OMFG it is AWESOME. I love it!

Anyone else blown away by this incredible reboot?

I am also a long time fan (no longer have my stuffed Tribble, though :-) ) but haven’t seen the new series. One of my besties has been watching and loves it and also recommended it, so I may have to subscribe for a limited period to Paramount+ to check it out.

I am currently on a quest to watch or rewatch all of the Marvel movies I need to watch to properly watch the new avengers movie 🍿 so currently just have Disney plus. But.. might have to get Paramount +

I grew up with a couple of Trekkie family members, so it was a part of my childhood -- TNG and DS9 were always on the tv, they took us to see several movies, we got all sorts of Star Trek actions figures and toys as gifts when we were kids...

I haven't seen this show yet, but recently watched all three seasons of Star Trek: Picard, which is also on Paramount +, and really enjoyed it.

I was old enough to "get" Star Trek right around when TWOK came out. Been hardcore into it since. Except for starfleet academy. Screw that show.
Love strange new worlds! This season has been kinda…huh? But it’s still interesting to watch. Picard S3 is my absolute favorite of all of the latest shows. Finally, a writer and show runner who got it beyond anyone else!

I've been watching ST:Picard, too. Just started 2nd season, which is... dare I? Fascinating

Of all the strange new worlds, new life and new civilizations, nothing has been more interesting and terrifying than The Borg! Maybe that's one of the reasons I don't like social media. It's just one step closer.

I had some other fun things planned this weekend so did not go but I am looking forward to the new release I heard was coming

Strange New Worlds is a blast, and Picard gets better as it goes along, loved that last season best.

My wife and I are also TNG nerds at heart, but seem to find new ways to….keep Trekking with all the other shows over time.

Oh for sure the musical episode was... out of this world! I don't typically like musicals but I had to watch that episode twice.

I grew up in the 70s watching the original series every Sunday as a kid, too, and loved TNG.

I have been extremely put off by almost all things Star Trek ever since Alex Kurtzman took over with the exception of season 3 of Picard when they reunited most of the original cast from Star Trek TNG. Aside from that I've very disappointingly pretty much written off Star Trek until they can right the ship.

I have the same attitude with Star Wars and Marvel now, too. Which is upsetting because these are things I grew up on and enjoyed as an adult as well. The first batch of Marvel movies kicked ass all the way up to Endgame before they fell off a cliff. I haven't been to a movie theater in probably 6 or 7 years now.

Is Strange New Worlds really a return to form or is it more Kurtzman Trek? I knew it was coming out, but it was only a minor blip on my radar.

Yes, Kurtzman is heavily involved. And yes, he's not as good as Roddenberry. No one ever will be.

However, so far I've been blown away by the series, although last couple of episodes fell a bit flat. The cast is very good!

I think Star Trek has always been a progressive show for the eras in which it existed. But the progressiveness was never supposed to be the centerpiece. At its best, Trek was about great storytelling, adventure, exploration, discovery, and interesting ideas. Sometimes those stories carried a progressive message, but the message was woven into the story rather than being the reason the story existed.

That's what feels different to me now. The messaging has moved to the foreground, and the storytelling has increasingly become the vehicle for delivering it. Instead of discovering a message through a compelling story, it can feel like the writers start with the message and then build a story around it. When that happens, the themes become much more ham-fisted, the characters can start feeling like mouthpieces, and honoring the spirit of what made Star Trek great in the first place becomes secondary.

It's not that I object to Trek being progressive. I object to the message becoming more important than the story. Give me a great Star Trek story with progressive ideas woven naturally into it, and I'm all for it. Give me a lecture dressed up as Star Trek, and I'm probably going to lose interest.

Strange new worlds does not feel like kurtzman. Definitely not discovery style either. I liked it a lot. Feels like TOS more than anything else.
