I will be celebrating at home. A small court case victory is cause for my celebration. smile I don't get out on NY's eve for a long time now. Too many crazy drunks out there - and non-drunk mean people. Safer at home with my little doggies, shielding them from their fear of fireworks. I'm making myself a sirloin steak (rarely eat meat but occasionally a steak or burger), a baked potato and a great salad. And of course my ever-present Dr. Pepper. smile I had invites but politely declined.

LOL at Tush -- making it to 9pm. laugh I'm a night owl, usually working very late and the only way I will know it's midnight is the red-neck fire works going off about 3/4th mile from me. smile

Making it to midnight won't be difficult. Every night since the kids have been out of school everyone except dd has been up past midnight.

Typically I can't sleep.

Today though, I'm tired and sore. Got conked on the head yesterday and it's really hurting today.

Kids and I did up a big spread of finger foods, veggies, fruit. Oh my I'm stuffed lol.

While we do a Pirates of the Caribbean marathon we are taking turns playing Battle Ship. Dd and Big D are playing now.

I'll join - Happy New Year to all! I, too, am hoping we all have a good 2024.

We used to get together with friends on NYE. Now ... one has died, 1 has moved away. Lost touch with a couple. A couple are very sick. A couple are recovering from Covid. None of us have much energy past 9:30. Starting last year, those who are standing meet for brunch on New Year's day.

NYE TV sucks; it used to be great - Jack Benny in The Horn Blows at Midnight and other cinema gems. I still remember Woody Allen on Jack Paar doing his moose hunting bit as if it were a true hunting story. Guy Lombardo and his band at some hotel. Staying up past midnight as a kid while my parents were out. Last night, nothing worth watching but the Packers grinding the Vikings into the dust. smile

Slight t/j re: Guy Lombardo's dance band, NYE on TV that Sisoon remembers.

I was just a kid when my folks tuned into it every NYE, too! My Dad had been an aviator at the end of WWII, and my Mom had played and sung with a big swing band during the late 1940's in Milwaukee, so they always liked to watch it. The cameraman always panned the ballroom full of dancers and would zoom in on couples dancing. Often I saw sad or wistful looks upon the dancers' faces - which just puzzled me. In fact, yesterday I recalled how once I asked my Mother why so many of them were seemingly sad, at a big fancy party? It made me feel bad for them, even as a kid.

Now that I'm old, I think I understand better why that might have been. Funny you should mention that show! Sisoon, do you remember this?

Last night, nothing worth watching but the Packers grinding the Vikings into the dust.

And what a fine dust it was!!

And actually what was a LOT of fun, was watching Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen get sloshed on CNN at Times Square. I'm so glad they let them have their liquor back on TV. If you haven't seen any clips, look for the one where they video chat with John Mayer, who's in Japan at a cat bar (yup, no typo there). I thought they were going to have to resuscitate Anderson from laughing so hard. Now, I'm not really a drinker (I have maybe six glasses of wine a year), and I'm not fond of watching idiots on New Year's Eve (or Fourth of July), but watching these two has become tradition on NYE.
