Ugh, we are having record setting temperatures in the minus category; And now it's snowing heavily. My Mom used to say .."It's too cold to snow" but that went out the window today. I have most of my house closed off, wearing my new stylish long underwear and top to match, have jammies and a big furry robe on. I have a warm bedroom, bathroom and kitchen but the remainder of my home is cold and it usually isn't as I'm, insulated well here.

I do not like winter and the cold. My friends landed in NYC last night for an anniversary trip and they said the weather was much nicer there! These temps are expected to last until early NEXT week so no chance for the snow to melt.

C'MON spring and summer.

Stay safe out there.

That sounds positively miserable!!

We have been dealing with crazy 20-25 mph winds with gusts up to 55mph. The temperature is dropping today and it will be in the twenties this week. At least the sun is out today.

January through March is my least favorite time of the year.

We had the wind gusts Friday and yesterday and the windchill temps were -30 -40 degrees. I got out long enough to get some supplies (crowds worse than Boack Friday!) and don't intend to get out until the temps get above freezing.

My little doggies are making quick work of their outside bathroom breaks. They are wearing their doggy sweaters, which they really do not like. smile smile

It's up to -1 here. Oh, joy. Tomorrow is supposed to be colder, and I have to go out in the AM for - get this - an oral surgery consultation.

At least I'm home. A few years ago, I was sick, and a flight home was cancelled because of a polar inversion. And it's a consultation, not the surgery itself. It might be up to 10 or even 20 when the surgery is done.

The nice thing is that if it gets up above 20, most of us around here will feel warn. smile

I'm concerned about the folks who live in supposedly warm climes below the Mason-Dixon line.

Weird down and up temps at my house. 8 to 10 or so inches of snow enough to need to plow and shovel last weekend with temperatures in the teens days and below at night. Snow piles from plowing have all but disappeared with the rain, high wind and 40s+ some of the days since.

Temperatures now for the next week range close to zero to 20s with little snow. I can deal with the cold better than the snow!

Keep warm, Jeanniegirl! Had a smile at the sweatered pups that don't really like them! grin

Raising my hand…I am below the Mason Dixon line and it is snowing here. Supposed to be sub zero in the next few days.

Honest to God, I have no idea how they're going to play that game in Buffalo tomorrow night. 11" of snow so far through 2PM today, and another 15-18" expected through tomorrow.

It will be a warmer game than in Kansas City, but travel will be SO dangerous.

I'm putting out extras food for my wildlife. Raccoons, deer, Opossums and yes, even one beautiful skunk that I caught on my camera (that I definitely left alone). The deer will eat right off the deck.

Jeanie
I have gone through 40 lbs of oils Sunflower seeds since last week. And a whole large box of suet.
The cold is unrelenting. Tomorrow supposed to get to freezing. Then 2 more days of sun zero Friday and Sat. Then A break.
This is awful. Several senior housing places have had pipes burst and hundreds of disabled and seniors needing temporary housing. So sad. I hope they get them placed soon.

Tush, terrible about the senior housing issues. I hope people open their homes to them.

I read we have had two deaths here, homeless people trying to stay warm in tents under freeways. There isn't enough warm shelters available.

We have been having killing snow and ice and then cold. The apartment I am currently at is in Southern part of the country. I grew up in the North and it’s not the snow that I couldn’t drive in. It’s the ice. No one can drive in that. Maybe chains or studs but that’s complicated because some roads are bone dry with a little black ice possible and others are covered. We saw an 8 ambulance accident from the highway last night. It was bone dry on the highway but I made a last minute decision to not take a state road (longer but knew what we were getting into on the highway). My prayers are with the first responders and healthcare workers who have been dealing with everything from forest fires to this weather.

We are headed back up into the high 50s from double digit minus.

We have been offering to let hospital shift workers hang out at the apartment if needed because of the quick freezes with wonky precipitation like even rain when it is at what I call the witching point (around 32 F). The apartment is near the hospital and health care workers have been through enough so whatever we can do to help.

We were not supposed to be feeding in the Midwest the past few years due to some kind of fungus that was getting birds sick from feeders. I decided to leave some patches of "weeds" for the birds (grasses, native plants) upright during the fall and winter. I hope it’s helping them some.

So sorry about the pipes freezing Tush. That is very sad. And I hope they can get people placed quickly.

Stay safe everyone.

For some odd reason, my sister's home has all the water pipes in the ceiling. My BIL recognized this would be a problem and took extra care to insulate the pipes when they bought their home. Their elderly neighbor next door didn't. ALL her water pipes in the ceiling froze and ruptured last week, ruining ceilings in several rooms. Her insurance company told her it's not 'covered' by insurance. She has no water and it looks like she will have to vacate her home, which she and her deceased husband bought several yeas ago. Sad situation. Her children are greedy and have been trying to force her to move to assisted living and sell her home, which she does not want to do. She's in her 80's and still mows her grass and takes care of her yard and has a good sized vegetable garden every year.

It would seem to me the insurance company would have to help her with repairs.

I feel bad for everyone who typically doesn't experience the cold.

Temps in the minus and tons of snow is normal here. That said, even I get unnerved when I have to drive in the dark with blowing snow or end up playing the winter game of which side of the road am I on...

My youngest brother on the other hand isn't fazed at all. He came up on a Saturday to drop off a new bed for dd. That was the weekend of the snow apocalypse. I was worried about his drive home. He then said "sis, you forget I lived in Alberta, this storm is nothing". laugh
shocked

After having lived through 50F inside the house, anything over 72 is just to darn hot.

Stay warm everyone.

Well it's not quite shorts weather (although I'm sure there's someone up here braving the cold on their legs lol) but I can say we have flooding. The dumping of snow plus thaw plus freezing = ice then more snow plus warmer temps and rain made tons of slush. The roads are ok but all along them the ditches and fields are all under water.

Forecast is for temps above 0 for most of the week.

This is definitely a mixed up winter.

At this time last week one risked freezing eyelids shut just by sticking head out the door.

It's February and rain is forecast at the end of the week. Definitely not a typical Ontario winter. Temps warm up during the day and everything freezes again at night so the slushy driveway is now an icy driveway back to slush then back to ice. I prefer snow over ice.

Saw photos of the eastern provinces. Yikes they got snow. shocked
