Dd is breaking out in hives.

This is episode #3.

Huge welts all over her face, chest and arms.

We have no idea what's causing it. I know stress can cause it and she was doing so amazing with IC and not biting her nails and sleeping well but that's changed in the last week or so. Back to biting her nails but still sleeping well and actually eating shocked

Today it happened at school. I had to take her some allergy meds since she didn't put them in her bag like I told her to...Kids lol

The antihistamines work and she's back to normal not long after taking them. She wasn't upset or anxious or panicked at all, she was having a good day.

While we wait to see the GP, does anyone have any experience with suddenly breaking out in hives with no apparent reason?

It will be ages before we can get her in to see an allergist.

This may sound strange but I had an issue like this when I accidentally bought tide with frebrez in it. Just hives and omg the itching. Rewashed clothes and I was fine. Dr. told me that can happen with chemicals for some people. My pops used ivory soap for decades then all of a sudden hives. Also some medications and certain foods can cause hives. Just some ideas.

Trying to hold it together

Dd hasn't eaten anything different at all.

I did switch fron Tide pods to liquid Tide. But if it was that wouldn't she have broken out every day since doing laundry?

My mother developed an almost deadly reaction to chemicals. She was hospitalized for some time then would break out in horrible rashes all over her body if she even walked down the detergent isle in the store. It was years if this with so many doctors and medications. It was awful. She hasn't had any episodes in a while though so I guess it's iut if her system.

I pray this isn't the start of something like that for dd.

Could it be stress or autoimmune? I break out from both of those. My doctor didn’t want to take me seriously on the autoimmune, but about that time, I started getting hives from existing.

I guess it can be anything. Stress has been suggested since dd is back to biting her nails. She's also had dizzy spells where she actually fell while at school.

She gets panic attacks at school too. Not often but it happens. And there's nothing that triggers it from what she says. It just comes on and she feels her chest get tight.

She is sleeping better. She goes to bed at a decent time every night, even on weekends. She's eating a bit more, which is great (I discovered she wanted to lose weight...she was talking about wanting a more defined jaw line). At 83 pounds down from 89 I sat her down and had a talk about her body image and that she needed to see herself as the amazing beautiful young woman she is. Body image is a major struggle for her.

Hopefully the doc can figure this out.

While this may not be helpful since your daughter is quite a bit older than our grandson, a couple of weeks ago he broke out in a rash, face, back, arms, etc. After a couple of days, they took him to the pediatrician who told them that more than people think, hives can be due to a virus. It could be, if she's stressed and her immune system is maxed out, she's susceptible to picking up viruses.

At least for our grandson, that made sense because there were no changes to diet, cleaning products, etc. They prescribed a stronger cortisone cream than you can get OTC and the rash was better within 24-48 hours with the new cream. He's not necessarily under stress, but is in daycare, so picks up bugs all the time.

The first episode of hives was Oct 12th. The second time Oct 13th then this last one on the 16th. Nothing today.

I dont know what to think at this point but she may have picked up some virus. She's not showing any other signs if illness. It's so weird!

The dizziness issue concerns me. That is not normally associated with hives.

It could be viral (and hopefully goes away just like it came).

Or it could be allergy related and if she’s taking antihistamines, that could cause dizziness too.

It could be something in the school that is causing the hives such as cleaning products etc.

I had a sibling develop severe allergies at 21 where the body just turned against itself. Lasted for years - mostly food triggers. It was a nightmare.

I hope you figure it out.

Omg she's breaking out again right now all over her face. She didn't even realize until I said something. WTF!

It wasn't itchy at first but now it is.

I'm not waiting for GP, I'm taking her tomorrow to urgent care.
