I've been coloring at home for almost 30 years. Any of the box dyes that are on the higher cost end (Feria, Garnier etc) should work just fine. If you're dealing with virgin hair or gray hair, try a strand test as either of those conditions can affect the time you should leave the dye on. Invest in a high quality color safe shampoo - try asking at the salon for a recommendation.

Also get a really good conditioner and try a weekly deep conditioning treatment. Healthy hair takes color quicker and easier and more evenly.

I get my hair done 2 to 3 times a year, I used to use Clairol root touch up in between until my grey out weighed my brown. There was one really embarrassing root touchup. I am now going "blond"er. with brown low lights. I think I will slowly reduce my low lights until I am truly blonde aka silver.

I love my hairdresser. She is helping me manage it.

So I know this won't be any help at all but I went kinda nuts and colored my hair purple.

A semi permanent dye. So it washes out after do many shampoos.

I didnt bleach my hair, or lighten it. It's strawberry blonde, with amazing streaks of silver. So I figured if it took or not at it was no biggie.

Gotta say I look amazing purple!!!

Funny enough thr damn silver didnt take the dye well. Go figure eh lol

I agree however this isnt grey, it's a shiny silver. My grandmother is most likely rolling in her grave as that's what she wanted. Her mother had amazing silver hair. Just beautiful. My grandmother went white only maybe a year before she passed. It remained red for so long.

I dont have many yet but the ones I have shimmer.

I'm thinking since the semi permanent didnt last that long I'll look for a more permanent dye next time. I love how it just feels more ME. Lol
