During the pandemic, we became more of baseball fans than we ever had, since it was something to watch on TV. We have about 3-4 teams that we follow closely.

We have a trip scheduled next week to Phoenix to visit some friends and decided we might try to do some spring training games. We truly don't know what to expect. I know there are many venues in the Phoenix area and we'll likely have to go to a few to see the teams we want to see. Any tips for making it more enjoyable? I gather that some stadiums have grassy areas to sit on as opposed to regular seats.

My team is in Jupiter FL. e flew into Ft Myers the Red Sox park is there. Went to a game there stayed with my parents. Drove across to Jupiter for 3 days. Saw 2 games and a practice day. It was freaking awesome. Met Waino, Mo, Was 5' away from Yadi and watched him pitch BP to Waino and a few other pitchers.

Lots of fun. Was hoping to go thos year but the lockout prevented that. Probably going year after next.

Lifetime Sox fan. Very jealous Tush!! I've been to Fenway but have not had the opportunity to go to spring training.

I live in the area and go to spring training games every year (in non-pandemic times, anyway). They're a lot of fun - I actually prefer them to the pro games.

There are grassy areas, yes - they're the less expensive "seats." The stadiums are smaller than the pro ones and the vibe is usually pretty chill. If you're coming this week, it looks like temps won't be bad - high 70s/low 80s.

The Sox are out AL team. My husband spent his formative years there.

I was very fortunate that my old job allowed me to travel and my partner in crime went to BU. We went to Boston for 5 days in 2019, we went early and saw a Sunday game at Fenway and sat 4 rows up from the baseline between home and the dugout. It was amazing. Sale pitched a fantastic game.

The spring training games are a lot of fun. The Sox Facility in Ft Myers is new and gorgeous too.

Sounds like this could be a lot of fun. I was sort of discouraged, though, when I read about the limitations of carry-in bags/purses into the stadiums. I need to measure the purse I'm carrying right now (it's the smallest one I own) and see if it fits within guidelines.

It's supposed to get really hot later this week in Phoenix, though. Low 90s. And they're all afternoon games. I don't know how to buy tickets that insure we're sitting in the shade. I'd have to hope the sunscreen I put on before entering the park will last the entire game.

Still trying to narrow down what games we want to see. If, in the end, we determine one or two games is enough, we'll head up to Sedona for a day, where it will be cooler.

Just an FYI when we went to Games both in Ft Myers, and in Jupiter, they had sunscreen dispensers all over, like the hand sanitizers.
I'm not a purse person so can't help you there. I carry my phone my ID, and my credit card, and that's it. Maybe some lip gloss in a pocket.

So we got to three games - the Dodgers playing at Camelback Ranch (tie game); the Dodgers away at Surprise Stadium (won); and the Brewers at American Family Fields (won). Two night games because the weather was too hot (upper 90s) for an afternoon game; and one afternoon game yesterday when the temps settled back to normal. We actually felt a few sprinkles every 15-20 minutes yesterday afternoon as a weather front approached Phoenix.

Had a lot of fun. Enjoyed seeing some of the newer talent, as well as veteran players. Saw Freddie Freeman hit a HR on his first at bat in the first game. The most important thing we learned was... weekend night games are PACKED! Lines for concessions were way too long. H spent two full innings trying to get us something to eat. I missed an inning and a half at another game doing the same. Traffic getting out of these stadiums after the game was a disaster because the games were sold out (although there were empty seats). Getting out of the Brewers afternoon game yesterday was a breeze - attendance was only 3000+.

Saw sunscreen dispensers in the bathrooms, but for the one afternoon game we went to, we just applied it in the parking lot when we arrived, and left it in the car.

It was all just so laid back - not the overstimulation of games in large ball parks. We'd do it again, except only go to weekday games.

I'm not a baseball fan but I am watching sweet 16 ... now getting down to Final Four. GO North Carolina!

Yes, we were following basketball as much as we were available. Sorry to see St. Peter's lose, though. What a Cinderella story!

Was in Phoenix this past week. Saw Dodgers-Rockies on Thursday and then went to Cubs-Royals with my oldest on Sunday. While the grass is cheaper, I'm a grumpy old man who prefers the shade.

The nice thing about AZ is that virtually every stadium is within a 30-minute drive of wherever you are. And most are relatively new (less than 20 years old).

Season ticket holder with the Rox as well. Even get to watch a game every year with Unhinged. 😁

We were staying in Tempe, because that's where our friends were that we also wanted to visit with. So Camelback Ranch and Surprise Stadium were a solid 45-60 minutes from where we were, especially in Friday night traffic. I thought the stadiums were beautiful... clean, and well-kept up. Nothing felt dirty or not well-maintained. Only complaint was, again, the looooooong lines for concessions at Friday and Saturday games when attendance was a sell-out.
